I wonder what doom metal bands you've listened to and had a bad reaction because i can bet it wasn't Theatre of Tragedy, Draconian, Swallow the Sun, Ahab, Skepticism, Katatonia's Dance of December Souls, October Tide's Rain Without End, or My Dying Bride's Turn Loose the Swans, for doom metal i would stick to The Gothic, Death and Funeral subgenres.

If u haven't seen it... it's a superhero movie w/ the heroes changing the course of history from World War II to the Vietnam War... The powerful superhero group the Watchmen have helped America win the Vietnam war... Nixon is still president in 1985 as the world is on the brink of nuclear war w/ the Soviet Union... the Watchmen have been declared illegal by Congressional law... The movie starts w/ the murder of the Comedian, a particularly brutal & violent 'hero'... and the only active Watchman named Rorschach suspects that someone is targeting the surviving Watchmen... However, the plot goes deeper w/ the most powerful hero Dr. Manhattan at the center of it. "Terminator 3" got a bad rap but it aged well in Arnold's famous franchise.

So I grew up with all of this - I was raised on Thrash Metal and one day when I was about 15, I went to the mall and there were no more thrash metal albums, only death metal…it was weird. I’d pick up something and put it back because of the dumb band logo that I couldn’t decipher. Slayer was still cool, but the rest of them were gone. Death was the first band that hooked me in this new DM scene, they were the best, progressive death metal. Cannibal Corpse was rad in the Barnes’ Days. I went to a ton of shows and met a lot of bands and everyone said Barnes was a dick, so I think what he said about Chuck was just wrong. Everyone loved Chuck, who will always be the godfather of that genre and Barnes was jealous. Barnes was only relevant because Cannibal Corpse was fresh when they hit the scene. Real talk, their album artwork was 75% of their appeal back in the day, so they got that part right, no doubt. Butchered is their best and most brutal work ever - Barnes went downhill after that. We all made fun of his vocals on the CC albums after Butchered, though the next couple had some cool tunes. Oh yeah - Malevolent Creation was way better IMO, check out The Ten Commandments. - and NO ONE talks about Autopsy these days, nor did they talk about them then, but those guys deserve their own show. Much Love!
